More sleeplessness and we’re moving

27 Jul

So the baby slept great all weekend. Then Sunday night. Up at 1am, 3am and 5am. It’s like she knew I had to get up at six and leave for work.

Not fair, kid.

And… the big news. We’ve decided that we’re tired of living under the oppressive threat of overwhelming debt. Also decided that we’re tired of living 40 minutes from daycare and work. Spending and hour and a half in the car with the kids is not quality time. We’re fighting because we’re overwhelmed and frightened about the future. We’re short tempered because there doesn’t seem to be a way out. We’re, in short, not doing that well.

So we’re biting the bullet. We’re liquidating most if not all of our assets, paying off ALL of our debt and selling the house. We’re going to move closer to the city, closer to work, closer to daycare and hopefully closer to each other. We’ll find a nice little townhouse to rent and downsize a bit. The best part will be? We’ll be at zero. We’ll have essentially no debt. We’ll still have Brian’s school loans and the van, but everything else will be gone. We’ll be able to Save money every month (Imagine that)! We’ll have plenty more years to save for retirement and future house downpayments.

So. We talked to a realtor, started divying up all the crap that needs to be cleaned up and fixed in the house and hopefully the house will be up on the market by September 1st. Our realtor is optimistic about our chances of selling and I’m getting excited about moving forward. 🙂

What a good idea! At one point along the way, my then-husband and I went bankrupt. We had offered a repayment plan to the bank, but because the market had tanked in the intervening years, our mortgage was bigger than the value of the house. The bank refused. Bankruptcy was the only option.

You know what? It felt TERRIFIC.We were, as you say, at zero. The relief was immense. I’m quite sure you’ll feel the same way, and I hope it all works for you.

I would love to say that this will be easy and stress free, but having come from the same situation, I understand why you are moving and I am oh so happy for all of you.
It’ll be a tough road, the cleaning, the memories, there may even be some more arguments, but hang in there, once it’s all over, life will be free and full of laughs again.

Congrats on making such a tough decision! Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help. Just throw a Red Bull at me once i a while and I’m good to go.
