Carnage revisited

27 Nov

So last night we came home and the roof was still leaking. The wall in our bedroom is more bubbled out, the phone on the bedside stand is making this creepy static noise and the dripping… is way worse than the night before.

At this point in time, we have called our contractor three times and they have come out to inspect the roof once. They didn’t find a leak.

We freaked out. We called everyone in creation and suddenly we had the head roofing guy and the lead contractor at our house. They took some pictures. They put down some tarps. They apologized profusely (as they should!) They got up on the roof and determined that the rain was coming off of one tarp onto another tarp and leaking in one small spot. They patched that spot. They put buckets in the attic.

They need one more half day to finish the roof. Unfortunately they can’t open it up when it’s pouring down rain. So, when the rain stops, they will finish the roof. Once they finish, they are going to fix the inside damage from the leak. This will possibly include the far wall in our bedroom, the ceiling and I’m hoping that the hardwoods weren’t damaged. They’re going to take care of everything and we won’t be charged for anything.  It’s just going to be a mess for awhile. For one thing, it’s not like  you can pull down a piece of drywall and fix it up. Our house is all plaster and lathe. It’s an enormous pain in the ass to rip it out and replace with drywall. At least it won’t be me and Brian doing  it.

And at least the leaking inside has stopped.
