A series of fortunate events

07 Mar

Brian is in Utah this week helping out some clients at Rocky Mountain Printing. It’s a good thing for Brian, they paid for him to come out and do training for them. It’s kinda sucky for me. I’ll be glad to have his paycheck but I miss having him at home. It’s the first time he’s been out of town since the baby’s been born. It’s weird at night to wake up in our bed without him and realize that he’s not just working downstairs.

It’s a weird week for Jeffrey also. In addition to only having a phonedad for the week, he’s being bussed between a bunch of friends for daycare. Since it was breakweek at RIT, Margaret’s House is only open Mon-Thur. Friday they are having a staff development day. You can opt to have your child looked after this week or to have them at home with you. I don’t know why, but we decided that we didn’t want to pay for the week and let them know that he would only be in daycare on Monday. This has caused a host of problems. Before I bitch about these problems, I must first say giant thanks to Heidi, Sue and Liane for helping us out. You are all amazing people for helping us out when we’re morons and cancel daycare. Commence bitching.

First, why the hell did we decide to forgo Margaret’s House? I have no idea. We must have been on crack and thought that Brian would be home. So we asked our friend Heidi if she could watch the boy. She graciously said yes and all was good. Except she couldn’t on Monday or Friday. She’s a pediatric emergency nurse and was either leaving for work or sleeping after returning extremely early from work on those days. That was cool, we had anticipated this because Heidi’s our friend and we’re aware of her schedule. So we asked Margaret’s House pretty please could we change our minds and come in on Monday. They agreed. Woo Hoo, crisis averted.

Um, no. Heidi forgot she had a doctor’s appointment for her son on Thursday. Three kids, two carseats, you see where this is going. We needed to find someone else for Thursday. We called our neighbor Kitty, whose mother had offered to sit in the past. She’s vacationing in South Carolina. Damn.

We then had the brilliant idea to call Sue. Our friend from the firehouse. Could Sue watch Jeffrey Thursday and Friday? Yes, woo hoo! Crisis averted.

Um, no. Sue forgot she had a doctor’s appointment on Friday. Three kids, no carseat, blah blah blah, we’ve already heard this story. Sue did offer to cover the morning before her appointment so at least if I leave work to get the baby it would only be a half day. I thought about it… pondered awhile and then I called Liane. She could also watch the baby for a half day because she needed to get some work done during the day. Perhaps they could trade my child back and forth?

Then I had a thought. Liane has a friend that lives in Hilton, who runs a daycare from her home. I asked Liane for her number and thankfully she has some flexibility on Fridays. I had met Michelle and her children previously and I trust Liane’s judgement, so I felt comfortable throwing my kid at her for a day. Finally, crisis averted.

Now, knock on wood he stays healthy this week so that I can stay at work. 🙂

If you lived HERE, Morgan and I would have happily taken Jeffrey 🙂

Ahhhh, those first few years of marriage when you still miss him when he’s not in bed!
Heh heh heh. I remember that. Being able to overlook the snoring, grunting, farting…

Jeffrey was adorable, I’m glad I had Thursday open for ya! Sorry he’s experiencing his first “phonedad” period. If it makes you feel any better, MY Brian was absolutely thrilled to do a little male-bonding with your boy today. The poor man has a wife and three daughters- that’s wayyyy too much estorgen for one guy. Jeffrey was a welcome change, with his little man-outfits and lack of pigtails!
